Cherry Hill African-American Civic Association and African-American Culture Clubs to Host February Black History Show
Jan 29 / 6:00 pm - Cherry Hill H.S. East (1750 Kresson Rd 08003)
The Cherry Hill African-American Civic Association and the African-American Culture Clubs of Cherry Hill High Schools East and West will host a Black History Show. The event will showcase local student performers from Cherry Hill High Schools East and West. Performances will include dance, song, spoken word/poetry readings and monologues. This event is free and open to the public.
“We sponsor this event during Black History Month to celebrate and honor African-American history and culture. Members of our organization and the students have planned and hosted this event for many years. It is a showcase of the talent of our local youth,” said Bill McCargo, president of the Cherry Hill African-American Civic Association (CHAACA).
Members of the Cherry Hill African-American Civic Association worked with students in the African-American Culture Clubs at Cherry Hill High Schools East and West to plan the show. The theme of this year's show is “Black Broadway”. It is directed by Keisha Blount, a graduate of Cherry Hill East (2005), Howard University (2009) and graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania (2011)
“As a student growing up in Cherry Hill, I was involved and performed in the annual Black History Show. I wanted to share my enthusiasm and passion for our history with the next generation of students. I am so proud of their hard work as we have a wonderful show planned,” said Keisha Blount, event director.
The Cherry Hill African-American Civic Association (CHAACA) is a 501C3 organization. It was created to provide a vehicle for the participation of African-American residents in the community life of Cherry Hill. Since it was founded in 1978, CHAACA has provided over $200,000 in college scholarships.
